Free DMV Written Test Simulator for New York | Updated for 2024
The New York DMV written test consists of 20 questions. You must answer 14 questions correctly to pass it. Along with passing the written knowledge test, in order to get your learner’s permit, you must be at least 16 years old, then pass a vision exam, and pay a fee that varies depending on your age and location. For those under 18, the fee is least expensive when you are 16 and a half to 17 ($76.75-$85.75) and most expensive when you are 17 to 17 1/2 ($92.50-$102.50). If it is ever necessary to replace your learner’s permit, the fee for that will be $17.50. At participating high schools, you may take the exam through the DMV Online Knowledge Test Application (OKTA) starting at age 15. Once you pass, you will be given a proof receipt, which you can then take to the DMV to receive your learner’s permit when you turn 16. This DMV practice test will help you prepare to pass your written exam either at the DMV or through OKTA.
